# OpenFilm

Lets a coding agent make videos as HTML pages, with a local browser editor to change anything it makes

Category: Devtools. Tier: new and rising, rank 2 by new and rising score (76 of 100). Pricing: Open source. License: MIT.

Platforms: claude-code, codex, macos, linux, windows.

## Why you would want it

OpenFilm has a coding agent such as Codex or Claude Code write a film as a folder with a film.html that cuts animated web pages, footage, pictures and sound together on tracks, styled with CSS. Each shot is a web page that draws any moment of itself with frame(t), and the same t must always draw the same picture. Studio, a local editor that runs in your browser, lets you move, scale and rotate elements, change text and color, and trim clips on the timeline, and the edits are saved to the film's files so the agent sees and keeps them. The look command checks the film by drawing each frame of its sheet twice and naming any that changed, along with page errors, failed fonts and missing sound files, and render writes the MP4.

## Best for

- Agent-made launch videos with music
- Hand-editing an agent's film in Studio
- Exporting MP4, GIF or timelines for Premiere, Resolve and Final Cut

## Use it when

You already work with Claude Code, Codex or another coding agent and want it to produce a video that you can then adjust by hand in an editor.

## Skip it if

You want a polished, long-stable tool: the repo is about two weeks old and its releases are 0.x (latest v0.2.0). Setup needs Node 22.2+, ffmpeg and git, and the first run downloads about 100 MB of headless Chromium, though the desktop app bundles ffmpeg and the browser. Your agent runs openfilm commands and the pages render in a headless browser, and generated voice, music, images and video need your own provider keys entered in Studio, so review what the agent runs and where keys go.

## Editor note

A desktop app for macOS and Windows (Studio with a chat beside it) is available from openfilm.dev or the GitHub Releases. Agents without skills can run npx -y openfilm@latest and follow the manual it prints.

## Install

Add the OpenFilm skill to your agent:

```sh
npx skills add openfilm/openfilm
```
