Why you'd want it
Numen is a Minecraft mod for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge that summons agents into the world: you open its panel, pick a model provider with your own API key and tell the agent what to do in plain language. The model writes Lua programs that run in a sandbox and combine atomic actions for perception, movement, digging, building and interaction, so one call can cover many steps. It can also act as an MCP server driven by an external agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and other mods can add Lua APIs through plugins.
Best for
- Minecraft companions that act on chat commands
- Driving a Minecraft player from Claude Code or Codex
- Experimenting with embodied agents in a game
Use it when
You want an agent that plays alongside you in Minecraft, or a game world your own coding agent can act in through MCP.
Skip it if
You need a stable release: builds are tagged beta (0.1.x), and most documentation and issue discussion is in Chinese, with an English README. It needs your own model API key, which the README says stays on your machine, and the MCP setup steps are on the project website rather than in the README.
Editor's note
The README supports Minecraft 1.20.1 to 26.2 across Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with Java 17, 21 or 25 depending on the version.
