Why you'd want it

Open Design starts from a brief and uses a coding agent already on your PATH, or OpenDesign Cloud, to create a prototype that follows your design system. The README reports 151 design-system packages built around a DESIGN.md file, plus 100+ functional skills and a plugin catalog. Outputs include web and mobile prototypes, slide decks that export to HTML, PDF, PPTX, ZIP or Markdown, generated images, and HyperFrames motion graphics exported to MP4. It also ships a stdio MCP server, so an agent in another repo can read files from your local Open Design projects after an od mcp install step.

Best for

  • Turning a brief into a prototype with your coding agent
  • Applying a DESIGN.md brand spec to generated pages
  • Decks and motion graphics from one project

Use it when

You already use a coding agent such as Claude Code or Codex and want it to produce on-brand prototypes, decks or media from a brief, with a local daemon and a desktop app around it.

Skip it if

It does not ship an agent, so you need a coding-agent CLI on your PATH, a BYOK API key, or OpenDesign Cloud, which is a separate hosted service. The daemon spawns those agent CLIs and the BYOK proxy takes provider API keys; scrubbed safety and reliability telemetry is always on (analytics and session replay are consent-gated), HyperFrames renders through headless Chrome, and the README also offers a curl-pipe-shell install.sh route that runs a remote script. The roadmap still lists unfinished items such as the AI-emitted tweaks panel and Figma or Pencil migration plugins (alpha), there is no prebuilt Linux desktop release, and on macOS a bare od command can resolve to the system octal-dump utility.

Editor's note

The README recommends the desktop app (macOS and Windows, from open-design.ai or GitHub Releases) and also lists Docker, od mcp install <agent> and a curl-pipe-shell install.sh. Run from source needs Node ~24 and pnpm 10.33.x per the README.

CLI that lets agents create, read and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files without Office installed

    Install with Homebrew

    brew install officecli
Use it when, skip it if, stats for OfficeCLI

    Why you'd want it

OfficeCLI is a single binary that creates, reads and modifies .docx, .xlsx and .pptx files from the command line, with no Office installation needed. Every command supports --json output and elements are addressed by paths such as /slide[1]/shape[2], so an agent does not have to handle OOXML namespaces. It can render documents to HTML or PNG so an agent can look at its output and fix layout, and it evaluates Excel formulas on write. It also ships template merge for {{key}} placeholders, a dump command that turns a document into replayable batch JSON, and a built-in MCP server.

    Best for

    • Agent-generated decks, reports and spreadsheets
    • Batch edits and template fill in CI
    • Extracting document content to JSON

    Use it when

You want an agent to produce or edit Word, Excel or PowerPoint files from a shell or over MCP, including in headless or Docker environments with no Office install.

    Skip it if

You are wary of piping a script into your shell; the README's one-line installer is curl into bash, and a package manager or manual download is also listed. The install step also writes a skill file into every agent config it detects, checks for updates in the background by default, and view screenshot pipes rendered HTML through a headless browser while watch starts a local HTTP server. The README's claims of being the first and best, its fidelity claims and its comparison table are the project's own and were not checked here, so test your own documents first. The raw XML commands can rewrite document parts directly.

    Run with npx

    npx repomix@latest
Use it when, skip it if, stats for Repomix

    Why you'd want it

Repomix reads a local or remote repository, respects .gitignore and .repomixignore, uses Secretlint to leave out files that match known credential formats, and writes one file with a summary, directory structure and file contents, plus token counts per file. The --compress option uses Tree-sitter to keep key code elements with fewer tokens, and large outputs can be split into parts. It also runs as an MCP server (repomix --mcp) and can generate Claude Agent Skills from a codebase.

    Best for

    • Feeding a whole codebase to a chat model
    • Checking token counts before sending context
    • Packing a remote GitHub repo for reference

    Use it when

You want to hand an LLM a full or filtered snapshot of a repository in one file, or let an agent pack repos through MCP.

    Skip it if

Your coding agent already reads files in your workspace and you have no need for a single packed file. By default the MCP server can read any path the host user can, so use --sandbox with untrusted clients.

Renders Manim CE-style math and 3D animation videos from Python scenes your agent writes

    Install with pip

    pip install manimgx
Use it when, skip it if, stats for ManimGX

    Why you'd want it

ManimGX lets an agent write Python against Manim Community Edition's API while a Rust and wgpu engine renders the MP4. It handles 2D and 3D together, with LaTeX or Typst text and math that need no LaTeX installation. The manimgx inspect command gives the agent storyboards and 2D layout checks to review its own output. The README also lists speech synced to animations with self.say() and an npm package that runs scenes in the browser through Pyodide and WebGPU. The README reports a 90.6x speedup over ManimCE on its own five-scene benchmark on an Apple M4 Pro.

    Best for

    • Agent-made explainer videos
    • Math and 3D visualizations
    • Embedding animations in web pages

    Use it when

You want an agent to turn a topic into a rendered math or 3D animation video, or you have Manim CE scenes you want to render faster.

    Skip it if

You need a mature tool: the repo is days old, at v0.1.1, with two contributors. It needs Python 3.13+, and the README says native wheels include x264 and are GPL-3.0-or-later as a whole, so check that before redistributing. The prompt install has your agent follow a remote llms.txt and run setup commands, so read it first. The benchmark numbers are the README's own claims.
